My birthday post!

I celebrated my birthday last week in the midst of lovely friends and (2/3 of my) family.

It was a great birthday actually. I never really expected so many people to come as I thought it would be just the house and maybe my course mates.

Steph 'conned' me to attend one of the classes she signed up to. I thought the topic 'the role of a junior doc' sounded interesting and I knew that she wanted to have me out from the house/cook for my bday so I agreed to go.

When I got home, I was escorted into Lynda's room.

I was so touched to see so many faces in the dark room glowing in the light from the candles of the bday cake and everyone singing the bday song.

Photobucket

How blessed and loved! Though I din receive many presents, but the companionship I had during my bday was more than everything and definitely priceless. Thanks everyone for making the effort to come even though it was a weekday and some were even rushing with assignment.

PS: pics will be uploaded soon after I get them from my housemate :)

Happy birthday Jon!

hello jon.

Happy birthday! This is a very belated post and my poor jon's hair must have grown a few white hairs as this post has been delayed for such a long time.

I remember when we were young, we sisters used to call jon Mr Horsie.

no, not because he looked like a horse, but because he was born in the year of horse.

anyway, this Mr Horse has grown from a small boy colt to a full-grown adult horse. I remember him when he first entered primary school and I used to look down at his class to see him in class (my class is opposite and is one floor higher than his). Sometimes if I did not have any afternoon class, we would wait under that leafless tree (under the scorching sun) for our parents to pick us up. How I miss those primary school days!

Now jon jon has just finished his high school and entering tertiary education. He will not be studying medicine to save lives like us sis but he will be saving computers instead. He is a computer expert and he knows everything about computer, inside and out. Throw him a computer problem and he will diagnose the problem for you.

My brother is not good at studies unlike us sis and he has suffer much as we sis had set a standard in the house for everyone to achieve. Education is not a yardstick to measure success in future although it gives one the upper end in finding jobs. I believe my dear jon will excel and maybe will be better than us in the future.

Happy 18th birthday jon! May God bless you and keep you. Don't play too much and study hard in pre-uni! If not how to see u in UK next time?

ps: btw, to anyone who knows jon and is reading this, please dun call him Mr Horse or else I cannot step into the house when I go back to Miri.

Happy birthday Thazin!

We had an early birthday celebration for Thazin ( one of my year 3 batch mates) as most of us would not be around next week when Christmas holiday starts.

we finally got the all the Asian Chinese (well not really 100% chinese coz Thazin is a mixed Burmese + Chinese ) 3rd year medics in a picture!I'm the shortestttttt!!!! argghh.

and with the help of Steph and Melvin, I made a chocolate banana cake ( trying to imitate Secret Recipe's choc banana cake)!

Oh..I used the speedlight to take the pictures and the picture quality is sooo good! me likey =)

recipe:

Chocolate Sponge Cake:
(A)
35 gm. Cocoa powder
70 gm. hot water
1 Tbsp. Chocolate emulco or Paste ( I used 40g of cocoa powder to substitute)
1 tsp. vanilla essence

(B)
125 gm. Cake flour (105gm all purpose flour + 30gm cornstarch to make 130 gm cake flour)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. Bicarbonate of Soda
75 gm. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt

(C)
45 gm. cornoil
80 gm. egg yolks
30 gm. fresh milk

(D)
150 gm. egg white
120 gm. sugar
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

Ganache:

250 gm. dairy whipping cream
210 gm. melted chocolate
42 gm. butter
add sugar according to ur taste

Decoration:
Some Bananas - slice lengthwise, preferably thicker slice

500gm. non-dairy whipping cream
70 gm. cocoa powder

add sugar according to ur taste

Method for the sponge:

(1) Mix cocoa powder, vanilla essence, hot water and chocolate paste together.
(2) Mix all the ingredients (B) together in a mixing bowl then add in (C) and mix to form a smooth batter. Add in the cocoa powder mixture and mix well.
(3) Whisk ingredients (D) until stiff peak and gradually fold into the cocoa powder batter.
(4) Pour into a 9" round cake tin and bake at 177C (gas mark 4) for about 40 to 45 mins. or till cooked. Leave cake to cool completely and then slice into 3 layers.
(5) Mix all the ingredients for Ganache and then microwave it for 20 secs. , stir till evenly combined and smooth. Microwave again if the chocolate has not melted. Leave to set before onto cake. ( I used bain marie method)
(6) Mix the whipped fresh cream with the cocoa powder mixture, spread onto one layer of cake. Top up with sliced banana and continue process till finished.
Cream the whole cake with the balance fresh cream.
(7) Pour Ganache on top and leave the whole cake in the chiller to set before slicing.
(8) Slice and enjoy!!!!

PS: I'm not sure about adding water to the cocoa powder in (A) coz the cocoa ended up clumping together forming snall round granules of cocoa.

Happy birthday mummy!

岁月不留人...

as years go by, we would not realise that our loved ones are growing old. Only when we look at pictures then we will be amazed at how much they have grown old!

3 of us then

Throughout all these years, we kids must have added a lot of wrinkles to your face mummy. We were rebellious, disobedient, naughty, reckless , stubborn....all these must have caused you much worry and pain.

As rebellious as we can be, we do not forget our roots. We appreciate that you took great efforts to save enough money for us to enable us three elder girls to study medicine in the UK. That's such a big sacrifice! Not many parents can do that!

No matter how old you become and how many wrinkles and age spots you have grown, you are always our mummy! Nothing can ever change that fact =)

Happy birthday mummy!

lots of love xx

thank you!!!

Thank you to those who wished/celebrated my birthday with me.

I feel so blessed and being loved. Thanks everyone.

I din get many presents this year, but it doesn't matter. Well, to me, I dun find getting presents that exciting and interesting anymore. Some people just give for the sake of giving without actually thinking deeply whether the person would like it or not. So it's better if I don't receive anything at all than getting loads of presents which I don't like.

However, some people gave much thought about a perfect birthday gift for me. I really appreciate it. Must have cracked your head to think of one eh?

Esther gave me a paper-wrapped birthday gift at 2am in the morning.

I took a snift at it, hmm..it smelt smell-less. Thought it was some chocolate tube but it was too short and a little bumpy. In the end I gave up because I couldn't guess it correctly. So I peeled off the paper wrapper and lo and behold....

'wabbit food' (as quoted from Esther). so thoughtful of you Esther -.-"

yeah. That was just a joke. She gave me a book titled 'wild swans'. Will read it one day when I hv time

birthday pressies...

The birthday cards which I got were cute! one was chosen by Esther with a rabbit and a mouse in front. What a coincidence!

I've got a life application study bible (thanks so much!!), a box of choc (actually two, one from Steph but I finished eating it already..haha) from my cg, a bear bear plus book from Lizzie and Vince and wild swans from Esther. Thank you all so much!

Also special thanks to Benny my housemate for the little surprise which I got. Haha.

I was working as usual at my workplace - sorting mails, when I suddenly heard the intercom announcing,

"we would like to wish happy birthday to Miss Ting Janice. Happy birthday to her."

As if once isn't enough. It was announced twice!

I was like, 'what the...? How did they know my birthday???' and I was smiling and my face was turning hot. U guys who know me can imagine how I am like when my name was announced. I was basically trying to hide my face and hoping that there was a tunnel I could jump into. I guess some people in Royal Mail who dun know me must be wondering why I'm smiling at myself and my face beetroot red.

No one wished me happy birthday after that, I guess it was either they were too concentrated with their work or they dun know my name.

Nevertheless it was sweet tho I can say that I'm a little embarrassed when I heard my name being announced.

I celebrated my birthday with church friends at Sing Kee (Oriental City) restaurant. It was nice really eating with a bunch of people. I saw Vincent (my ex cg leader) doing some kind of sign language with Ken at another table. I thought they were doing some normal conversation talk and didn't care about it. But suddenly, the birthday song erupted in the restaurant and people started singing happy birthday to me...awww...it was so sweet.

This year birthday is by far the best and the most meaningful. I was basically the whole night when I was working up to the time I'm writing this blog post. Thanks to those who have put in a lot of effort to make it the happiest birthday for me...you know who you are.

I really appreciate it =)

edited: I forgot to include a Ben's and Jerry's ice cream tube given by Melvin. Didn't know it was sitting in my freezer since Friday as I hvnt checked my freezer for a long time. Thanks Melvin!

Today (6th Nov) I received a mail from one of my friends in Kent --> Wei Lun. Thanks for the ginseng tablets! But like you said, I'm not sure whether I will eat it or not.

Happy birthday!

23rd July is a date I cannot forget.

Happy birthday daddy!

As promised, a birthday gift from me: a post specially written for u =)

My dad is like superman:

original superman pic source

He earns money.

He repairs cars, computers, electrical stuff...

He takes really good pictures, does gardening once in a blue moon and is very tactful in conversation.

He sends us kids to school everyday.

yeah, I guess that's what a typical dad can do.

But,

Whose dad can teach their children basic skills of Microsoft Word, Office, Powerpoint, Adobe?

Whose dad can still cook dinner EVERYDAY after one whole day in the office?

Whose dad can bake cakes and make nutritional drinks? (I still rmbr the drink of 5 greens..haha)

Whose dad can do laundry and housechores?

Whose dad can do all these but never complain?

Well, my dad can.

and that's what make him my superman dad.

Happy birthday daddy!

Half a century old lor...must eat healthily and take good care of ur body!

Since daddy has high cholesterol so cannot eat cake, so here's one virtual birthday cake for daddy!
cake specially made to give a sweet sensation without even eating it =)

PS: din hv the time to make a card for daddy..but this post shud be sufficient! Happy Father's Day too ( tho I dunno when it is)!

also forgive me for my poor photoshopping skills. Din cut and paste daddy's face properly on it
